Alex is currently a Professor of the Practice of Public Policy and Documentary Studies at Duke University. Early in his career, Alex earned a degree from Yale University and has worked over the years on numerous documentary projects across the US, in Cuba, Mexico, and South Africa. Alex is a founder of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, and co-founded DoubleTake Magazine. Alex has published fifteen books including most recently Why We Are Here, a collaboration with evolutionary biologist E.O. Wilson. Alex is currently the Creative Director for the Lewis Hine Documentary Fellows Program within the Center for Documentary Studies.
